Vacation...

Where did vacation go?  It just flew by... I did very little, but that is ok.  It was relaxing and restful.  I should probably have tried to get all caught up on grad school work and work work, but I didn't.  There's always Sunday.  Things I did do:

  • Read!  I read a ton this week!  I finished numbers 14, 15, and 16 of the Anita Blake vampire hunter series.  I finished listening to  Wizard's First Rule and also listened Norwegian Wood and Lamb: The Gospel According to Biff, Christ's Childhood Pal.  Now I've started listening to Wicked and I am about 1/3 of the way though that and I am also reading Anita Blake book 17.
  • Crafted!  Made some progress on my February Lady Sweater and borrowed some spinning wheels to play with.  I'm really enjoying playing with Lynne's Lendrum.  Since my lesson on Wednesday I've already spun all the fiber I had!  I so want a wheel.  Not quite sure what I am going to buy yet, but I'm definitely getting one soon.  This article was really helpful, but I'm still not quite sure.  I'm definitely open to suggestions and opinions :)
  • Ikea-ed!  I rearranged my second bedroom.  I had been putting this off for a very long time.  I had just assumed that my boyfriend (now ex) would be moving back in soon and that we'd want to make it into a shared office type space.  Since we broke up I don't want that room to go to waste anymore.  I got two new bookcases at Ikea and a nice desk.  As with all Ikea things they were a pain in the ass to assemble, but now that they are put together I'm happy.  I love my new desk, it will double as an excellent crafting/sewing table.  Maybe now that I have a desk I'll stop doing my homework in front of the tv at the coffee table... probably not though.
I definitely need to do some more spring cleaning though.  I have so much junk and I do not want to end up on Hoarders.  I did some purging, but there's definitely more that needs to be done.  I need to do some serious closet reorganizing on pretty much all four of the closets in my apartment.  They are a mess.  Oh well, there's always April vacation I guess :)

Tomorrow will be filled with homework, food shopping, laundry, and getting ready to go back to the real world on Monday.

my friends rock.

So I've been wanting to learn how to spin for a long time now, but I didn't want to spend the money on a wheel until I was sure it was something I would be into enough to be worth the money.  Getting to the part where my friends rock... Rachel let me borrow her adorable little wheel to play with:

And then Lynne gave me a spinning lesson on Wednesday.  She was also kind enough let me borrow one of her wheels so I could practice on a full size one:

Last night I was having some trouble keeping track of the fiber and making the wheel turn at the same time and was getting a little frustrated.  Then something just clicked this morning and I started getting the hang of it!  I'm so excited!  I still don't really have a clue what I'm doing, but I think I will be able to pick it up pretty quickly once I get a book or do some more reading online.  What I have figured out so far is that I think I prefer the double treadles to the single treadle.

I'm so glad to have friends who have no problem enabling me!  Now I just need to decided what kind of wheel I want and buy it. Then maybe I can get a sheep and an alpaca and maybe a goat and a bunny....  I like yarn, I like animals, there's no way this could become a problem...

sweet craving...

So... I wanted something sweet, but haven't been food shopping in weeks.  Since I had nothing at all in the house I thought I'd make some cookies (this is odd for me, seeing that I don't cook never mind bake).  I had flour, sugar, and weirdly even chocolate chips.  But no eggs.  So I decided to attempt eggless cookies.  Here's what I mixed together:

1 cups flour
1/2 cup of sugar
1/2 cup splenda/brown sugar mix
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 cup yogurt spread (didn't have any butter)
1 tsp vanilla
a pinch of salt
some cinnamon
2 cups of quick oats
chocolate chips

I also threw some PB2 powder in there and then added enough water to mix it all up.

They're in the oven now!  Hope they come out yummy...  They smell like they might be burning though.
